In a vibrant celebration of cultural heritage, the designated ambassador of Spain, Sonia Álvarez Cibanal, highlighted the deep-rooted human and cultural ties between Spain and El Salvador during the Day of Hispanic Heritage and National Holiday of Spain. The official reception, hosted by the Spanish embassy in El Salvador, brought together government representatives, accredited diplomats, and special guests, including Vice President Félix Ulloa and Foreign Minister Alexandra Hill Tinoco.
The evening commenced with a captivating performance by the Choir and Youth Symphony Orchestra Polígono Don Bosco, which showcased a repertoire from Spain, enchanting the attendees.
Ambassador Álvarez emphasized the significance of the relationship between Spain and El Salvador, stating, “There are many close human and cultural ties that unite Spain and El Salvador, which constitute the origin of our bilateral relations.” She outlined key areas of collaboration, including the recent visit of King Felipe VI to El Salvador for President Nayib Bukele’s investiture, and a meeting between Foreign Minister Hill and her Spanish counterpart in Madrid, where they signed a memorandum to promote the Spanish language internationally.
Vice President Ulloa echoed these sentiments, describing the day as a “memorable and historic date about the meeting between two worlds.” He spoke of the pride in the cultural syncretism that defines Hispanic America and reiterated the solid relationship between El Salvador and Spain.
Ulloa noted the importance of the MAP (Mechanism for Assistance to El Salvador), which ensures collaboration in areas such as the environment, gender equality, human rights, and rule of law, highlighting the successful execution of projects under this partnership.
As Spain and El Salvador continue to strengthen their ties, this celebration serves as a reminder of the enduring cultural connections that enrich both nations.
