The Salvadoran Embassy in Washington D.C. showcased the vibrant flavors of Salvadoran cuisine at the “SaborES Salvadoran American Chefs” event. The culinary creations of seven renowned Salvadoran chefs based in Washington D.C. and New York delighted attendees, emphasizing the rich contributions of the Salvadoran diaspora to American society through gastronomy.
The event was held as part of the celebration of Salvadoran-American Day, aimed at highlighting the impact of Salvadoran immigrants in the United States. Ambassador Milena Mayorga expressed her gratitude to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Cultural, Sports, and Gastronomic Promotion Directorate for its support through the «El Salvador Renace» initiative, which seeks to revitalize and strengthen the country’s image through public and cultural diplomacy.
Throughout the event, chefs Blaz Salmerón, Dina Zetino, Javier Marquina, Luis Santos, María Montes, Noé Canales, and Rufino Bautista prepared an array of dishes with European influences and traditional Salvadoran cuisine, incorporating native ingredients and innovative takes on classic recipes. In recognition of their outstanding careers and participation in the event, the chefs were honored by Ambassador Mayorga.
Adding to the cultural atmosphere, the folkloric dance group «Flor de Café,» composed of members of the Salvadoran diaspora in Virginia, Maryland, and Washington D.C., performed two musical pieces, further celebrating the richness of Salvadoran culture.
