The Salvadoran government continues its commitment to enhancing the Trade Facilitation Strategy through regular consultations with local entrepreneurs. Benjamin Mayorga, the head of the Directorate General of Customs of El Salvador (DGA), recently visited Enerwire, a leading manufacturer of electrical conductors, on February 14th.
The purpose of the visit was to gain insights into the ongoing projects of Enerwire and to extend support in streamlining administrative processes. Mayorga expressed the government’s dedication to understanding the specific needs and operations of each company to provide improved services through Customs.
It’s noteworthy that Enerwire is among the 13 companies certified as reliable operators in January, granting them expedited attention at border points. This certification is awarded to companies complying with customs and tax regulations, implementing processes ensuring traceability, security, and predictability in their operations.
“We want to understand the processes and needs of each company to offer better government services through Customs,” stated Mayorga.
Mayorga, emphasizing the government’s ongoing collaboration with various institutions, reiterated, “As a government, we continue to work in coordination to provide trade facilitation tools to users.”
The Salvadoran government, in its pursuit of fortifying the National Trade Facilitation Strategy launched last year and valid until 2027, engages in periodic consultations with local entrepreneurs. In January, Mayorga held discussions with representatives from companies in the American Industrial Park, the largest free trade zone in the country.
During this meeting, Mayorga explored the growth projections of these companies, ensuring that customs processes are efficient and devoid of delays. The American Industrial Park boasts 220,000 square meters of industrial roofing and hosts over 26 international companies, contributing to approximately 12,000 direct job opportunities.
Additionally, in the same timeframe, Mayorga toured the facilities of Orion Industrial Park, the country’s first eco-industrial park. This visit provided insights into the developmental initiatives within the complex, further aligning with the government’s commitment to fostering sustainable industrial practices.
The Salvadoran government’s proactive engagement with local businesses reflects a strategic approach to trade facilitation, promoting economic growth and ensuring efficient customs processes for the benefit of both businesses and the nation as a whole.
