El Salvador Wraps Up «Upskilling & Reskilling» Project to Empower +1000 Tech Talents.

El Salvador’s Ministry of Economy successfully concluded the «Upskilling & Reskilling» project on Wednesday, fulfilling its goal of equipping technology talents with the necessary tools to develop digital competencies and skills demanded by the technology services sector.

Under the leadership of Minister of Economy María Luisa Hayem, this project provided training to over 1,000 participants from across the country in areas such as design, software development, cybersecurity, networks, servers, and databases.

Minister Hayem highlighted that these specializations were developed by internationally certified instructors using ICT-based learning methods, incorporating various technologies at different skill levels.

«I am thrilled to be part of the closing ceremony of this program. We have led this project from the Ministry of Economy in collaboration with the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and Fedisaul. The government has been working on the Digital Nation project, where we have identified the needs of technology companies, and one of those needs is skilled human talent. This program addresses that,» commented Minister Hayem.

«This also complements the Law for the Promotion of Technological Innovation and Manufacturing, which grants 15 years of tax exemption for new technology investments. We have provided intensive training in technology and digital skills. We have also received support from the private sector for this project,» she added.

Minister Hayem further explained that each participant gained essential knowledge in software development through tools such as JavaScript, Microsoft SQL Server, Django, React Native, JavaServer Faces, Python, and Node.js.

She also mentioned, «Companies have actively participated in curriculum design to ensure that the content being taught meets market demands.»

«This marks the second edition of the project. In 2022, we successfully trained 504 beneficiaries in technological infrastructure. In the second phase, executed this year, the focus shifted to basic and intermediate software development. In this phase, 508 young individuals were trained in nine different software development specializations,» she concluded.

The «Upskilling & Reskilling» project serves as a significant step towards bridging the skills gap in El Salvador’s technology industry, providing participants with the expertise required to thrive in the digital era. By partnering with international instructors and incorporating industry needs into the curriculum, the Ministry of Economy and its collaborators have demonstrated their commitment to fostering a technologically skilled workforce and promoting innovation in the country.
