Grupo Bimbo Breaks Ground on New Production Plant in El Salvador.

In a move set to bolster its presence in Central America, Grupo Bimbo has commenced the construction of a new production facility in El Salvador. The forthcoming factory, slated to commence operations in early 2025, marks a significant expansion for the company in the region, promising a 50% increase in production and the creation of over 600 direct jobs.

After an extensive two-year search across the region, Grupo Bimbo’s decision to establish the new plant in El Salvador was influenced by the country’s favorable business environment and the achievements of President Nayib Bukele, particularly in social and judicial security, coupled with the availability of skilled local labor.

In a ceremony attended by government officials and business leaders, the company representatives laid the cornerstone for the factory in the municipality of San Salvador Oeste. The facility is projected to commence operations in the first quarter of 2025.

Mexican Ambassador to El Salvador, Ricardo Cantú, highlighted the strategic geographic location and security offered by El Salvador as key factors in attracting this new wave of Mexican investment into the country.

«I believe Bimbo has made a wise decision, and their investment here will be successful. The important thing is to grow with development, and I believe El Salvador has the conditions to do so, just like our country, Mexico,» stated the Mexican diplomat.

According to information from the Mexican embassy, the Mexican capital investment will generate 650 local jobs upon reaching full operational capacity.

Sebastián Reynoso, Regional CEO of Grupo Bimbo, emphasized that the factory, equipped with state-of-the-art industrial technology, will cater to the local market, as well as the broader Central and South American regions. This move will substantially increase the company’s production output in the country.

«These projections reflect our confidence in the potential offered by El Salvador and the conditions of an increasingly dynamic regional market. We are facing a favorable outlook that positions El Salvador as a key development hub for our company,» added Reynoso.

A significant portion of the total investment allocated for the local plant will be directed towards land acquisition, expansion, and infrastructure development, including civil works, the installation of a treatment plant, and a fire suppression system. This underscores Grupo Bimbo’s commitment to fostering a safe and environmentally respectful workplace.

For Miguel Kattan, Secretary of Commerce and Investment of the Presidency, this project underscores the country’s global positioning, ensuring growth and investment returns for companies due to its security and economic competitiveness.

«This country is committed to working hand in hand with entrepreneurs to generate wealth. A country that is experiencing a renaissance and sees the future with an entirely different horizon is a country with a government that believes in its people and considers that the public sector should excel the private,» remarked Kattan.
