Safety and Hospitality Drive Surge in Honduran Visitors to El Salvador for Annual Morazan Holiday.

A growing sense of security and warm hospitality are driving a major influx of Honduran travelers into El Salvador for Semana Morazánica, Honduras’ annual national holiday week running from October 5 to October 9. Officials project 58,522 Honduran visitors will enter the country during the holiday frame, marking a 20% increase compared to the 48,768 tourists recorded during the same period in 2025.

To accommodate the influx, the administration of President Nayib Bukele has deployed specialized inter-institutional teams across major land border crossings, including El Amatillo in La Unión Norte and El Poy in Chalatenango—which together accounted for 85% of total Honduran arrivals during last year’s holiday. Border agents are greeting arriving families with complimentary coffee, bottled water, and traditional Salvadoran snacks while facilitating expedited immigration checks to eliminate long wait times.

Beyond border efficiency, travelers highlight the country’s transformed security environment as a key factor in choosing El Salvador for holiday getaway trips. “We come to El Salvador with confidence,” shared Allan Romero, a Honduran citizen crossing through the El Amatillo border post. “This is our fourth time visiting, and we always find something new, along with safety and support from our Salvadoran brothers.”

Government authorities continue to implement measures ensuring fair treatment, transparent consumer pricing, and full public safety for international visitors throughout their stay. As thousands of Honduran vacationers explore beaches, mountain towns, and historic districts across the national territory, El Salvador continues to consolidate its position as a top regional tourism destination.
