El Salvador’s new National Stadium welcomed one of the country’s leading athletes as tennis player Marcelo Arévalo toured the sports complex currently under construction with Chinese support.
Arévalo, a member of the Effort and Glory Program, visited the project alongside Zhang Yanhui, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to El Salvador. Rafael Arévalo, president of the Salvadoran Tennis Federation, and Marcelo Arévalo’s parents, Rafael Arévalo and Ana Sofía González de Arévalo, also joined the tour.
During the visit, Arévalo observed several sections of the developing stadium and highlighted the scale of the infrastructure. The tour provided the Salvadoran tennis player with a firsthand look at a major sports project that is approaching its final construction stages.
According to Ambassador Zhang, the visit followed Arévalo’s recent trip to the Chinese Embassy, where the athlete saw a model of the stadium and expressed interest in visiting the construction site. The project is being built by China State Construction, with current work including the installation of seating and the stadium roof.
The visit underscored the intersection of sports, infrastructure, and international cooperation in El Salvador, while giving one of the nation’s internationally recognized athletes an opportunity to see the future sporting venue firsthand.
