El Salvador is deepening security cooperation with Argentina through the exchange of operational expertise and strategies aimed at confronting organized crime, reinforcing the country’s international partnerships under President Nayib Bukele.
El Salvador’s Minister of Justice and Public Security, Gustavo Villatoro, met with Argentina’s Security Minister Alejandra Monteoliva to discuss measures against criminal organizations and explore the capabilities of Argentina’s Naval Prefecture Coast Guard System.
During the visit, Villatoro toured the Coast Guard facilities alongside the chiefs of Argentina’s five Federal Forces, providing an opportunity for both countries to exchange experiences and examine approaches to addressing organized crime.
The meeting highlighted the importance of coordinated action against criminal networks whose activities increasingly extend across national borders. Both officials emphasized that security challenges require stronger institutional cooperation and the sharing of expertise between governments.
For El Salvador, the engagement forms part of the Bukele administration’s broader strategy of building international alliances with countries committed to strengthening public security. The government has maintained that cooperation between nations is essential to confronting organized crime and promoting a safer and more prosperous region.
The dialogue with Argentina adds to El Salvador’s growing regional engagement on security matters, positioning the country as an active partner in the exchange of strategies to address transnational criminal threats.
