From Childhood to Higher Education: El Salvador Builds a New Path for Future Generations

El Salvador is advancing a comprehensive education transformation designed to accompany students from early childhood through higher education, as the government seeks to build the foundations for a more skilled and competitive generation.

President Nayib Bukele highlighted the scope of the strategy, which includes early childhood education, preschool and primary education, alongside the expansion of technology throughout the school system. The initiative provides students with computers and seeks to introduce artificial intelligence tutors, with the goal of giving every student access to personalized digital learning tools.

Another key component is nationwide school connectivity. According to the government, 70% of schools are already connected to the internet, with full national coverage targeted as part of the ongoing modernization of education.

The strategy also encompasses new curricula, updated teaching materials, and the National Play Strategy, while a continuous infrastructure program is renovating approximately two schools per day. At the same time, tens of thousands of teachers are receiving training, recognizing their central role in ensuring that technological and curricular reforms translate into better learning outcomes.

Bukele described the initiative as an effort to guarantee an uninterrupted educational journey, from a child’s earliest years through graduation from higher education.

The broader vision is to establish education as a long-term national investment, preparing Salvadoran youth with the knowledge, digital skills, and opportunities needed to contribute to the country’s next stage of development.

Rather than viewing education as a series of disconnected stages, the strategy seeks to create a continuous pathway in which technology, infrastructure, teachers, and new learning models work together to accompany each generation from childhood to professional life.
