New Report Shows Investment and Hiring Potential in El Salvador’s Small Business Sector.

El Salvador’s micro and small business sector is entering 2026 with cautious optimism, offering new signals for investment and job creation, according to the latest Confidence Index released by the Observatorio MYPE on February 13.

The report indicates that 63.6 percent of micro and small enterprises expect favorable business conditions during the first quarter of 2026. While that figure reflects a slight moderation compared to the final quarter of 2025, optimism remains dominant across the sector, which represents a key pillar of El Salvador’s domestic economy.

Nearly half of surveyed businesses reported favorable results in the fourth quarter of 2025, suggesting improving short-term conditions despite a more measured outlook compared to the same period a year earlier. The index tracking perceptions of current business performance rose between the third and fourth quarters of 2025, signaling renewed momentum at the close of the year.

Business confidence itself remained stable heading into 2026. According to the report, confidence summarizes how entrepreneurs perceive the economic environment and often anticipates decisions related to investment, hiring, or expansion. That stability is viewed as particularly significant for observers in the United States monitoring nearshoring trends, regional supply chains, and emerging market opportunities in Central America.

Although a small share of entrepreneurs anticipate more challenging conditions, the overall data suggests that El Salvador’s small business ecosystem continues to position itself as a source of resilience and potential growth. For U.S. readers tracking economic developments in the country, the latest index points to a sector that is not only stabilizing but preparing to expand.
