The district of Monte San Juan, in the southern part of Cuscatlán, has opened a modern gastronomic plaza at the entrance of the city, offering gourmet coffee, food stalls, and fully equipped kiosks for visitors. The space is open daily from 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and has already become a meeting point for tourists and local families.
The project was built by the Dirección Nacional de Obras Municipales (DOM) and inaugurated by local authorities and entrepreneurs. During the opening, the institution highlighted the transformation of the area, stating that “what used to be a dumping ground and a source of pollution for the city is now a source of income and economic revitalization for the community […] a renewed and attractive space where families can spend quality time and local entrepreneurs can sell their products.”
The plaza features concrete seating and stands, restrooms, electrical and hydraulic systems, signage, a fire prevention system, outdoor furniture, a security booth, and a perimeter wall.
Local entrepreneurs expressed optimism about the initiative, noting that many are already operating and expecting an increase in visitors in the coming days. The plaza is one of five similar projects announced by President Nayib Bukele’s administration on August 26, aimed at strengthening tourism, economic growth, and community engagement.
In addition, the DOM is currently executing more than 40 social development projects in Cuscatlán, including the revitalization of Suchitoto’s historic center, the construction of a community center in Oratorio de Concepción, and an inclusive walkway in San Pedro Perulapán.
