El Salvador honored the region’s shared history and values as Education Minister Karla Trigueros received the Central American Torch of Independence from Guatemala in a solemn and spirited ceremony. Joined by Deputy Minister Edgar Alvarenga and a group of students, Trigueros carried the flame in a symbolic run that highlighted discipline and patriotic enthusiasm.
The ceremony took place at the Centro Escolar Cantón El Roble in Ahuachapán, following the official handover at the Las Chinamas border. Students and teachers celebrated with cultural performances, showcasing national pride and unity.
During her remarks, Trigueros emphasized the importance of instilling discipline and civic values in classrooms while highlighting the new reality of peace and security in El Salvador. “It is an honor to receive the Central American Torch, a symbol of peace, unity, and freedom, from our sister Republic of Guatemala. Its light reflects the strength of our peoples and the shared desire to build a better future for the entire region,” she said.
The Guatemalan delegation also witnessed the transformation of education in El Salvador, as the host school had recently been renovated under the government’s #DosEscuelasXDía program, led by the Directorate of Municipal Works.
