Humanitarian Victory Achieved Through Bukele’s Leadership and U.S. Cooperation.

The government of El Salvador has completed a high-level prisoner exchange with Venezuela, securing the release of American citizens and Venezuelan political prisoners in return for the extradition of individuals linked to the violent criminal group Tren de Aragua.

President Nayib Bukele confirmed that all Venezuelan nationals detained in El Salvador—many facing charges of murder, robbery, rape, and other serious crimes—were handed over to the Venezuelan regime. The operation, offered as early as April, was carried out in exchange for a significant number of political prisoners held by the regime, along with all American hostages previously detained in Venezuela.

“These individuals are now en route to El Salvador, where they will make a brief stop before continuing their journey home,” Bukele announced.

The complex exchange followed months of negotiations with what Bukele described as a «tyrannical regime» that had long resisted releasing its hostages. The Salvadoran leader credited the successful outcome to the persistent work of officials from both El Salvador and the United States, and to divine intervention.

“With patience and trust, it was achieved,” Bukele affirmed.

This diplomatic milestone reinforces El Salvador’s expanding role in international negotiations and humanitarian efforts.
