El Salvador Marks 909 Days Without Homicides Under Bukele Security Model.

El Salvador continues to break records in public safety as the government of President Nayib Bukele announces 909 days without homicides, a historic achievement attributed to the nation’s security strategy and ongoing crackdown on gang-related crime.

According to the National Civil Police (PNC), May 14 marked another homicide-free day, bringing the 2025 total to 111 days without murders. These include multiple consecutive days in May and notable results from previous months: 25 homicide-free days in April, 22 in March, 26 in February, and 25 in January.

Since the beginning of the state of emergency in March 2022, a key part of the government’s anti-gang efforts, 795 of the 909 murder-free days have taken place, consolidating El Salvador’s transformation into one of the safest countries in Latin America.

Major Blow to Drug Trafficking

The security plan has also dealt significant blows to organized crime. Authorities report drug seizures valued at over $993 million, including:

This aggressive stance against drug trafficking forms part of a broader strategy to dismantle criminal networks and reclaim national sovereignty.

U.S. Congress Members Praise Progress

During a recent visit, members of the U.S. Congress El Salvador Caucus praised the country’s success in citizen security. Congresswoman Anna Paulina Luna stated that “President Nayib Bukele has done an impressive job in security.”

Congressmen Andy Ogles (Tennessee) and Vicente González (Texas) expressed support for expanding economic collaboration. “If El Salvador does well, we do well. It’s a mutual relationship,” said González, adding that U.S. legislators will work to attract investment to fuel the country’s development.

As El Salvador continues to gain international recognition for its security gains, officials maintain that the next step is economic revitalization—a goal now supported by emerging alliances abroad.
