President Bukele’s Surf City Vision Brings Global Spotlight to El Sunzal, El Salvador.

El Sunzal, one of El Salvador’s most iconic beaches, continues to attract global attention as the Surf City El Salvador ISA World Longboard Championship enters its fifth day of competition. The event, which has drawn top athletes from around the world, is also serving as a platform for showcasing the country’s rich culture and local talent.

As part of President Nayib Bukele’s Surf City initiative, the Salvadoran government has been actively promoting national artists and the cultural heritage of the country at major surfing events. This strategy not only boosts tourism but also creates economic opportunities for local communities.

One standout during the championship has been Andrea Magaña, a rising Salvadoran talent whose performance has caught the eyes of many. Meanwhile, local artist Armando Márquez has captivated visitors with his hand-painted miniature surfboards, which are being gifted to participating surfers as cultural mementos.

“It’s an incredible opportunity to share our culture with the world,” said Márquez during the event.

The government’s focus on tourism and national culture has been key to revitalizing the coastal economy. With thousands of international visitors arriving in El Sunzal this week, the championship has become more than just a sporting event—it’s a celebration of Salvadoran identity and progress.
