Guatemala and El Salvador Commit to Seamless Customs Operations and Trade Facilitation.

A recent meeting between officials from Guatemala and El Salvador focused on improving border management, trade facilitation, and customs operations. Key discussions included the staffing and infrastructure needs of border posts and how to enhance the flow of goods and services between the two nations.

The meeting, part of the “Deep Integration Process,” was attended by Guatemala’s Deputy Minister of Integration and Foreign Trade, Héctor Marroquín Mora, along with representatives from the Directorate General of Customs of El Salvador and Guatemala’s Customs Intendency.

A key topic was the operations at Pedro de Alvarado and La Ermita customs posts. Statistical reports were shared to identify improvements that could streamline customs procedures and reduce delays. The extension of 24-hour service at San Cristóbal Customs was also discussed to ensure continuous trade operations.

The officials also agreed on measures to optimize border control, including the use of the GT-SV seal for faster processing while maintaining security. Both countries committed to improving the Advanced Declaration system to reduce wait times at border crossings.

“This collaboration is vital for improving our logistics costs, making our country more competitive,” said Marroquín Mora.

The outcome of the meeting was a commitment to better customs coordination, fostering regional economic integration and strengthening trade relations between the two countries.
