El Salvador is preparing for a significant influx of international visitors during Holy Week, with projections estimating around 135,000 tourists and revenue of approximately $111 million. This growth highlights the country’s improved security environment and the positive impact of tourism on the national economy.
The Minister of Tourism, Morena Valdez, shared these forecasts, detailing that 36% of visitors will come from Guatemala, 29% from the United States, 21% from Honduras, and 14% from other countries.
“In 2024, we closed the year with around 3.9 million visitors, generating between $3.5 billion and $3.6 billion in foreign exchange revenue,” Valdez stated, underscoring the steady growth of the tourism sector. She also emphasized the government’s commitment to maintaining these figures in 2025.
El Salvador has been implementing various strategies to position itself as an attractive destination in the region. Investments in infrastructure, international promotion, and enhanced security measures have played a crucial role in drawing visitors.
The projections for Holy Week reaffirm the confidence of international tourists in the country’s current stability and showcase the ongoing benefits that tourism brings to El Salvador’s economy.
