El Salvador’s Nation Brand Revolution: Outpacing the Region in Global Perception.

El Salvador has been recognized as the strongest and most solid nation brand in Central America, following a meteoric rise in the Global Soft Power Index 2025 by Brand Finance. The prestigious international report, published on February 21, evaluates 175 nations based on 12 development indicators, including governance, education, and health.

In just two years, El Salvador surpassed neighboring countries such as Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua, becoming the fastest-rising country in the entire ranking. The nation climbed 35 positions from 117th place in 2024 to 82nd in 2025, with its score increasing from 32.6 to 35.8 points.

Brand Finance credited this remarkable progress to the transformational leadership of President Nayib Bukele, highlighting El Salvador’s increased global recognition and its shift toward innovation and security. Nelson Flores, a public administration specialist, pointed out that El Salvador’s success stems from its investment in technology industries, digital assets, and the fight against insecurity and corruption.

In contrast, other Central American nations experienced setbacks. Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua all showed declines in their rankings over the past five years. Meanwhile, Panama and Costa Rica, though still ahead in the index, demonstrated a downward trend in their evaluations.

Experts suggest that El Salvador’s proactive approach to economic modernization, investment attraction, and international relations with key partners like the United States has been crucial to its rapid ascent, setting a new standard for the region.
