El Salvador continues to enhance national planning and development through precise statistical tools, ensuring data-driven decision-making and effective public policy formulation. As part of this effort, the second report of the 2024 Population and Housing Census was released today.
Douglas Rodríguez, President of the Central Reserve Bank, presented key findings on fertility, mortality, education, economy, and international migration. The report complements the data released in October 2023, which confirmed El Salvador’s population at 6,029,976, with 52.8% women and 47.2% men.
Economic indicators revealed a rise in the Economically Active Population (EAP), increasing from 45.4% in 2007 to 52.5% in 2024. Moreover, 95.5% of the EAP is currently employed, a significant rise from 88.6% in 2007. The departments of La Unión and Morazán reported the highest employment rates, with 96.8% of their EAP engaged in work.
