President Nayib Bukele announced today that the Government of El Salvador will cover the electricity and water bills for January for 95% of residential users. The relief measures aim to alleviate the financial burden on Salvadoran families, especially during a month that is traditionally financially challenging due to holiday and school-related expenses.
The government will cover electricity bills up to $80, including all charges such as municipal taxes and surcharges. Water bills from ANDA will also be covered, as long as the total does not exceed $30. If the bills surpass these amounts, the government will not provide coverage.
«This benefit is automatic,» President Bukele stated. «There is no need to complete any procedure to access it. You simply need to refrain from paying the January bills. If you have already paid, don’t worry—the amounts paid will be deducted from the February bills.»
In addition to the utility bill relief, President Bukele reminded the public that the government is also providing school supplies, uniforms, shoes, computers, and tablets to 100% of public school children. «We hope that this measure will ease the economic strain on households, especially with the additional costs that come with Christmas and school expenses,» the president said.
He emphasized that these actions are part of a broader government effort to support families and ensure the well-being of citizens. «This gives us an easier January to face,» President Bukele concluded, reaffirming his commitment to both the financial stability of the population and the advancement of the country’s education system. «God bless you.»
