El Salvador achieved a significant milestone in road safety yesterday, reporting no traffic fatalities and zero speeding violations on Monseñor Romero Boulevard. Minister of Public Works and Transportation, Romeo Herrera, attributed this success to recent reforms in the Land Transport, Traffic, and Road Safety Law.
The reforms, emphasizing zero tolerance for dangerous driving, have led to a notable decrease in road accidents and fatalities during the holiday season. From December 23 to January 2, the country saw 96 fewer accidents and a 29% reduction in fatalities compared to the previous year.
The photo-fine system, recently implemented on Monseñor Romero Boulevard, played a crucial role in reducing speeding incidents. Herrera emphasized the government’s commitment to enhancing road safety through stricter penalties and public awareness, ensuring safer travel for all Salvadorans.
