President Bukele and President Chaves Announce Launch of League of Nations for Security and Prosperity.

In a historic move aimed at fostering security and prosperity in Central America, the presidents of El Salvador and Costa Rica, Nayib Bukele and Rodrigo Chaves, announced the creation of the League of Nations, a new bilateral initiative designed to strengthen cooperation between the two countries. The announcement was made yesterday in San José, Costa Rica, during a state visit by President Bukele.

The League, which will start with El Salvador and Costa Rica as founding members, seeks to bring together countries that share a common vision of promoting the well-being of their citizens, with a focus on security and economic prosperity. “We agreed that we are going to start with a seed: El Salvador and Costa Rica, and we are going to look for small countries to start with a clear mind and a robust purpose,” said Costa Rican President Chaves.

Chaves emphasized that the League’s mission would extend beyond the two nations, with plans to propose joint initiatives to other countries, including the newly elected United States administration under President Donald Trump. “We are going to start working to the point that we want to formulate joint proposals to the rest of the world,” Chaves added.

President Bukele echoed Chaves’ sentiments, expressing confidence in the initiative’s success. “We are going to start building the headquarters of the League of Nations. We will invite countries that think like us and want to bring the best to their citizens,” Bukele said.

In addition to the launch of the League, both countries signed a series of significant agreements aimed at strengthening bilateral ties in areas such as tourism, trade, culture, and environmental cooperation. Notably, the tourism agreement focuses on creating a sustainable tourism model, drawing on Costa Rica’s experience to enhance El Salvador’s Surf City project.

Further agreements were made in the areas of economic cooperation, culture, and environmental services. The two nations committed to sharing knowledge on cultural policies, promoting technical cooperation to improve economic policies, and working together on renewable energy and sustainable practices.

In the evening, President Chaves hosted President Bukele for a state dinner at Costa Rica’s National Theater, where he praised El Salvador’s security policies under Bukele’s leadership. Bukele, in turn, emphasized that defeating crime in the region requires a united effort from all sectors of society and the government.

The launch of the League of Nations marks a new chapter in Central American cooperation, with the promise of a stronger, more secure future for both countries and potentially others in the region.
