The Ministry of Public Works (MOP) has made significant progress in the construction of the Francisco Morazán Viaduct, as part of the ambitious Los Chorros Megaproject. Crews have completed the concrete pouring for the third foundation base, alongside finishing one of the structure’s footings.
Once completed, the Francisco Morazán Viaduct will be the largest and longest bridge in the country, spanning approximately one kilometer with an elevation of over 30 meters. The viaduct will feature eight lanes (four in each direction) and will be constructed over a ravine that runs parallel to a section of the Pan-American Highway, reducing risks and improving safety for travelers in the area.
In parallel, MOP teams are advancing with the expansion of the Pan-American Highway from four to six lanes, covering the stretch from El Poliedro to the Opico turnoff. Hydraulic concrete is being laid on the new lanes.
These infrastructure improvements aim to ease traffic flow for families, businesses, and tourists, as well as streamline the transportation of goods across the region. The project will benefit over 60,000 daily drivers and enhance logistics to the western part of the country.
