Legislative Assembly Elects New Magistrates for Supreme Electoral Tribunal.

In a significant decision during a plenary session on Thursday, the Legislative Assembly elected new magistrates to serve on the Supreme Electoral Tribunal (TSE) for the term 2024-2029. Roxana Seledonia Soriano, a former president of the Court of Accounts of the Republic, was elected to preside over the collegiate body.

Joining Soriano on the tribunal are Cecilia María Marroquín Castro, Francisco Rubén Alvarado Fuentes, and Karla Cecilia Guandique. The election received strong support from the Nuevas Ideas, PDC, and PCN benches, while the ARENA and Vamos parties largely abstained from voting.

The newly elected magistrates will replace the current TSE members—Dora Esmeralda Martínez de Barahona, Luis Guillermo Wellman Carpio, Julio Olivo Granadino, and Rubén Atilio Meléndez García—whose terms conclude this year. The transition marks a pivotal moment for the TSE as it prepares for the electoral challenges ahead.
