El Salvador Prepares for $87 Million Tourism Windfall in August.

The government officials under President Nayib Bukele have launched the August 2024 Holiday Plan to cater to tourists and the diaspora at El Salvador International Airport. Tourism Minister Morena Valdez stated that the government is preparing adequately to welcome thousands of tourists who choose El Salvador for their vacations during the upcoming high season.

“For this holiday season, we project to host 78,000 international visitors, which would generate $87 million in foreign exchange,” she affirmed.

Valdez also highlighted the expected continuous growth of domestic tourism. “Internal tourism is also important, with a projection of 2.5 million visitors in all public spaces,” she added.

Ricardo Cucalón, the Director of Migration and Foreign Affairs, mentioned that the launch and the strategies anchored to the plan aim to make travelers’ vacations even better than in previous years.

“As the immigration authority, during this holiday period from August 1 to 6, we expect approximately 345,000 entries and exits of both national and foreign individuals through the country’s various borders,” he stated.

Furthermore, Cucalón noted that the institution’s staff would be attending to travelers 24 hours a day at the country’s air, land, and sea borders.

“More than 5,000 immigration officers will be serving over 50,000 people daily. At the land borders alone, we expect a flow of over 234,000 people,” he confirmed.
