China Continues Support for El Salvador’s Development in President Bukele’s Second Term.

In a festive celebration of the Spring Festival at the National Library of El Salvador (Binaes) in the Historic Center, Chinese Ambassador Zhang Yanhui reiterated China’s commitment to supporting various projects in El Salvador, including the construction of the National Stadium.

Ambassador Zhang stated that during President Nayib Bukele’s second term, the ongoing projects, such as the National Stadium, would come to fruition. He highlighted the strong friendship between the two nations and the negotiation of several upcoming projects.

Among the notable contributions from China is a seven-story glass building with illuminated, sinuous edges, donated as part of the ongoing cooperation. The impressive structure houses a 24-hour library equipped with modern computers, video games, resin printers, simulators, themed areas, restaurants, and recreational zones.

China has also collaborated on significant infrastructure projects, including a tourist dock in the port of La Libertad, the Surf City road, and an eight-well battery in Ilopango.

El Salvador and China’s alliance extends beyond infrastructure development, with plans for a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) announced by President Bukele in November 2022. This initiative aims to boost economic opportunities for entrepreneurs, businesses, and various sectors across the country.

The negotiations also include plans to establish new trade routes to the Atlantic Ocean, facilitating the export of products to China. This strategic move aligns with efforts to strengthen the blue economy and promote overall economic growth in the region.

The bilateral trade volume between El Salvador and China reached $1,890 million in 2022, marking a significant 73.4% increase since the establishment of diplomatic relations. China, being one of the world’s largest consumer markets, remains open to collaboration with El Salvador and other countries.

As President Bukele’s second term unfolds, the continued support and collaboration between El Salvador and China are poised to bring about significant economic and infrastructural advancements, solidifying their partnership for mutual benefit.
