Illinois Newspaper Hails El Salvador as a Budget-Friendly Paradise, Surpassing Hawaii in Affordability.

In a recent travel feature in The Orange County Register, Illinois, journalist Marla Jo Fisher has lauded El Salvador as an ideal tourist destination, drawing comparisons to Hawaii while emphasizing the country’s economic appeal.

Fisher, from The Orange County Register, Illinois, has spotlighted El Salvador in her travel section as a must-visit destination, praising its beauty, natural landscapes, warm hospitality, and, notably, its affordability.

While initially familiar with El Salvador for its renowned volcanoes and world-class waves, Fisher was pleasantly surprised during her visit to this Central American gem.

The seasoned traveler was taken aback by the remarkably low prices at El Salvador’s restaurants, expressing disbelief at the cost of the “delicious pupusas,” which she enjoyed for a mere $0.75 each. Fisher was captivated by the overall cost of a shared dinner at a local pupusería ($13.75).

Apart from highlighting El Salvador as an “affordable” destination, Fisher recommended exploring the country for its stunning volcanoes, lush forests, and cascades. She shared her experience at the Don Juan waterfalls, located just 6 kilometers from the town of Concepción de Ataco.

Fisher marveled at the short distances between various tourist spots within the country, describing El Salvador as “compact.” The avid traveler visited beaches, the Ruta de las Flores, and even Coatepeque Lake. In her article, Fisher included transportation and restaurant prices to underscore the overall affordability of the destination.

Drawing a comparison between El Salvador and Hawaii, Fisher pointed out the similarities between the two and asserted that the Central American country is more budget-friendly.

“Hawaii has volcanoes. El Salvador has volcanoes. Hawaii has surfable beaches. El Salvador has surfable beaches. Hawaii has forests and jungles. El Salvador has forests and jungles. Hawaii is expensive. El Salvador… is not,” remarked Fisher.

In her article, Fisher also noted that the security landscape in El Salvador has improved significantly, crediting the government’s security strategy under President Nayib Bukele for the eradication of gangs. Fisher conveyed the sentiment of Salvadorans, who expressed feeling much safer than before.

“I know I’ll be back, at least to explore the famous beaches like El Tunco, El Zonte, and El Cuco. I hope to bring the rest of my family with me,” shared Marla Jo Fisher of The Orange County Register, Illinois, reflecting on her visit to El Salvador.
