La Unión Port Welcomes More Cargo Ships as Revitalization Efforts Thrive.

The Port of La Unión has been bustling with activity as it continues to accommodate the arrivals of various cargo vessels. Over the weekend, the vessel TAI SPLENDOR docked at the maritime terminal to unload a cargo of 2,450 metric tons of fertilizer, as reported by the Autonomous Port Executive Commission (CEPA).

After 15 years of inactivity, the Port of La Unión is experiencing a renaissance, catering to diverse types of ships transporting a wide range of export and import goods.

In line with this momentum, the Autonomous Port Executive Commission (CEPA) announced that the vessel TAI SPLENDOR berthed at the maritime terminal over the weekend, offloading a significant cargo of 2,450 metric tons of fertilizer.

«The ongoing activation of the maritime terminal is a part of the strategies implemented by the administration of President Nayib Bukele,» stated the autonomous commission.

With the arrival of the bulk carrier, measuring 200 meters in length and 32 meters in width, the port’s versatility is underscored, demonstrating its capability to accommodate vessels of all types. This reinforces President Nayib Bukele’s government’s dedication to rejuvenating these facilities.

Furthermore, Federico Anliker, the President of CEPA, affirmed that the port will continue to cater to an array of ships from various sectors. «The port is now in continuous operation and is becoming a favored destination for new shipping companies,» he stated.

Anliker added that the port had languished in abandonment for 15 years. However, recent years have seen substantial investments that have transformed the facilities into modern establishments meeting the high-quality standards sought by maritime companies.

«The port is an entirely new terminal and is far superior to what it was years ago. It’s a maritime terminal that stands proud among any first-world port. We’re extremely proud to declare that we have breathed new life into the Port of La Unión,» he enthusiastically added.

On August 10th, the ferry Blue Wave Harmony set sail from La Unión towards Costa Rica in a voyage spanning 360 nautical miles. This marked the ferry’s first cargo journey between the two nations, reactivating the Salvadoran port.

Furthermore, authorities are diligently working on additional initiatives slated for implementation at the La Unión port, such as the establishment of a shipyard and a platform capable of accommodating large vessels. These initiatives are projected to create hundreds of jobs for Salvadorans in the area.

As the Port of La Unión undergoes an impressive resurgence, it signifies not only the port’s reinvigoration but also the commitment of the Nayib Bukele administration to foster economic growth and prosperity in the region.
