El Tamboral, a community located in Quelepa, San Miguel, has witnessed the positive impact of the Silvopastoral Reforestation System implemented by the Salvadoran Water Authority (ASA). This initiative, which aims to harmonize forestry and livestock production to promote agroecology, has benefited over 500 residents.
Under the leadership of President Bukele, the Salvadoran government is making significant strides towards ensuring food security in the country. The implementation of the Silvopastoral Reforestation System in El Tamboral has directly improved the lives of 539 individuals within the community.
According to information provided by ASA, the project encompasses various conservation efforts, including soil conservation measures to enhance water infiltration, the establishment of reservoirs, planting of shade trees, forage crops, living fences, and pasture development.
The Silvopastoral Reforestation System not only contributes to the restoration of aquifers but also guarantees improved livestock nutrition. By combining forestry and livestock practices, this innovative approach ensures sustainable land use and fosters a healthier environment for both animals and humans.
Furthermore, Jorge Castaneda, the President of ASA, highlighted the positive impact of the Sustainable Schools project in Quelepa, which has benefited 287 students. This initiative focuses on implementing climate change adaptation measures and engaging students in activities aimed at protecting natural resources.
«We are committed to adapting to climate change and fostering a culture of environmental stewardship among our students,» expressed Castaneda.
As part of this project, the Obrajuelo School now boasts a rainwater harvesting system, providing students with improved access to clean water for hygiene purposes and creating optimal conditions for their well-being.
The government of El Salvador, through its investment in initiatives like the Silvopastoral Reforestation System and Sustainable Schools project, demonstrates its dedication to ensuring food security, protecting natural resources, and promoting sustainable development. These efforts are crucial steps towards building a resilient and prosperous future for the country and its inhabitants.
